At Rapid Personnel, we are always on the lookout for ways to go the extra mile for our staff. It is why we are so excited to have discovered the Just Good Work app.
This free interactive mobile app empowers and equips anyone looking for work to know their employment rights, recognise when they are being ill-treated and understand how to fix the situation. We are making the app accessible to all our temporary staff via our own app.
The Just Good Work app is the brainchild of a Kenyan worker who had repeatedly been deceived and overcharged on his way to work abroad. Designed to ‘create better pathways to employment’, its purpose is ‘to empower migrant job-seekers and workers to make choices based on knowledge of their rights and responsibilities, providing advice, access to help and feedback loops from the earliest stages of their recruitment journey.’ The app is currently available in English, Bulgarian, Romanian, Gujarati and Kiswahili.
We are already well aligned with Just Good Work in terms of our purpose and values. It should be no surprise, therefore, that we want to cheerlead this app. We believe that our work goes beyond finding people temporary jobs. We want to help people build meaningful lives, whether they are arriving in the UK to find work or looking for alternative employment due to the pandemic. One way we do this is to help those with little English language skills and/or minimal work experience find that all-important first job. We also support those with the desire to grow and develop to move into higher skilled and better-paid work.
Not only are we enhancing lives, but we are also helping to protect those in a vulnerable position from falling victim to modern slavery and other forms of ill-treatment.
We were the first agency in Reading to become GLAA accredited. We are vocal supporters of Stronger Together, the organisation fighting Modern Slavery in Supply chains. Last year, we became the first Industrial recruitment agency in Reading to sign the Reading Ethical Recruitment Charter. The Just Good Work app will be another way to champion ethical recruitment and help our staff stay protected and remain alert to potential pitfalls.
